New Child Grooming Law Passes in TN

A new Tennessee law addressing the grooming of minors has officially been passed and will take effect July 1, 2026. The legislation creates criminal penalties for predatory patterns of behavior intended to prepare or manipulate minors for sexual abuse, including secrecy cultivation, isolation, inappropriate boundary violations, and sexualized communication. The Tennessee Ministry Network supports efforts that strengthen protections for children and help equip churches, ministries, and leaders to recognize and prevent abuse before it occurs. The law also includes safeguards for legitimate educational, healthcare, parental, and ministry-related interactions. We encourage pastors and ministry leaders to familiarize themselves with the legislation and its definitions.
